I'm sure most Sydney siders have come accross Jimmie Durham's 'Still Life With Stone and Car' from seeing one of Cate Blanchett's Sydney Theatre Company productions or on an aimless drive with friends not knowing what you have happened accross. It's a huge comical piece, it fits well in the local area, but at the same time it changes the landscape, abruptly punctuating this locality of high end housing and entertainment with a car smashed under a colossal boulder.
It is literal and easy enough to create your own story and understanding, but in a premium area you can't imagine a place you can describe as being hospital-grade clean with a cool, dirty sculpture. For me it looks like another failed Wile E. Cayote and Roadrunner skit and I love it.
I waited for a while hoping to shoot a number of cars circling the art installation, but any more than 2 never eventuated. If there was at least three on opposing ends, it could have created a lot of drama and comic effect, here's to next time.
